I'll take it! - Rick Mulhern - 05-01-2015 Shot this ten shot group this AM. Had a 8-10 mph wind from 2 o/clock but had good visibility as is clear and cool. I shot a previous group two days back from 200 yds. using a different primer and the shots just did hold the 10 ring on the HP 200 yard target. This was shot using the F210M primer with 102 gr. KIK 2F, BACO PPTB at .446" diameter and patched to OD of .451" and .300" lube cookie. There's 7 rounds through the numeral 10. I'll take it. Shot with irons, post front.: 95% of the hunting rifles that come to this range won't shoot this well! 200tgt by Sharps45 2 7/8, on Flickr
RE: I'll take it! - Eric Johanen - 05-01-2015 Now, that is some excellent work! Very good shooting. I just started working with KIK 2 FG and it is showing very good results in my Shiloh 45-70. 70 grains driving a PJ Money Bullet greaser and will test pp loads next. Fouling not too heavy and soft and cleans nicely with 1 damp and 1 dry patch. I think I'll like this powder. RE: I'll take it! - Rick Mulhern - 05-01-2015 I use two patches (always) damp with NAPA oil/water and either one or two dry patches if necessary and always look through the bore to see if the bore is too my expectations. The first damp patch goes all the way through and out. The second goes to the muzzle and I pull all the way back and then back through and out. The first dry patch...same way; all the way to the muzzle and pulled back and then all the way to muzzle again and out. On occasion after bore observation I might notice a piece of lint in the bore and then.....another dry patch goes through. I don't want any crap in the bore for the next shot. Oh...this group would have been better but I called the shot in the X ring slightly low toward 4 o/clock and sure enough...that's where that one went! I was using my 200 yard zero when it was set at 40 degrees and with a temp of 72 degrees the group was slightly high! I'll make a correction now that we're into warmer temps! RE: I'll take it! - Eric Johanen - 05-01-2015 So far the weather is providing nice humid conditions and 1 damp and 1 dry is giving me a nice clean bore. I visually check the condition and if I notice something amiss, I give it a second round of cleaning. This is really great fun isn't it! RE: I'll take it! - Gunlaker - 05-01-2015 Good shooting :-). When I first saw the group I thought it was 5 shots and then I saw the part about the seven shots in the "ten". Chris. RE: I'll take it! - Rick Mulhern - 05-03-2015 Does quite well from 600 yards also: 600gp by Sharps45 2 7/8, on Flickr
RE: I'll take it! - Don McDowell - 05-03-2015 Looking good Rick RE: I'll take it! - Rick Mulhern - 05-03-2015 Don Over many years of shooting NRA HP....I shot some great scores....won lots of matches in my time! No national titles or records....but I toted home lots of trophies...or junk! BUT....of any LR target I ever cleaned...and were many....shooting good groups like onto the one shown...and I'm sure there are others that have shot better from 600 yards....I can honestly say that for me...there is more joy and satisfaction in shooting good with the BPCR surpasses any score I ever fired with an M1 Garand, M14, or NRA Match Rifle! Many say that NRA HP is easy! It ain't....not if you want to climb to the upper echelon of competition...which I did! But when all is considered with comparison to rifles and bullets used....shooting LR with a BPCR and being successful at it is the upper level of finesse!! RE: I'll take it! - Don McDowell - 05-03-2015 Rick, there is a certain aura of satisfaction from shooting long range with blackpowder and patched bullets. RE: I'll take it! - Lumpy Grits - 05-04-2015 Even more fun when you have a range like that on your own property. ![]() Rick-Does your range face North?? Gary |
