Are you on your way to Pennsy to get it then? Might check with 45bpcr to see if he's got a match going. I'm pretty sure they're shooting the 1000 yd at Reade Pa on the 8th of August.

Kurt,

Are you going to go pick this one up ? If so, which way do you drive ?

What is this rifle going to be ? I haven't kept up with all the goings on lately.

Don,

Not yet. I'm not going till Gail tells me that it's ready. I'm not taking any rifles with me this trip.

Dave.

Yes I will run out there again to pick it up. I wont let anyone ship my rifles. This time I will take the Northern rout through Canada to avoid Chicago, Gary Ind and Ohio. I don't like the big towns.
This rifle will also be chambered for the .44-75 Ballard Everlasting like the first rifle. The first rifle has a bad barrel and it also has a .22 barrel with it. The barrel maker made me a new barrel with correct dimensions (bore/groove) so I told him to sent it to CPA and I will have them build me another one so I don't have to keep switching the barrels from the .44 to the .22. Not a good idea anyway.

I'm waiting for my e-mail from CPA . I am having a 2 barreled gun built, 38-50 and 40-60 Maynard both based on 30-40 Krag brass so I don't have to switch extractors. Sent them 2 barrels and 2 blocks of burl black walnut in March, hope it won't be too much longer. Bill

RE: Got an e-mail from CPA.
Bill I placed the order Feb 16 so you should be close. Gail said about a month or so back that they are falling behind because of the increase of orders and shop expansion. When I was there last fall picking up a rifle they where putting an addition on and adding new machines.
I have a two barrel rifle, .22 and .44 Ballard. I decided to have a second build so I don't have to keep switching barrels. I don't want the .22 loosening up by switching it. And at the Baker shoot they had a .22 match plus the long range and this was a pitta changing barrels for sighters and then back for the two matches.
Switching barrels is not much of a job but they are tight and when they break loose there is a loud snap. When I first switched barrels when I got it I had to get the strap wrench out to break it loose. I could not do this holding it in my hands. I had to place the action in the cleaning rack and use a strap wrench to break it loose.
When I was at the shop Paul showed me how to switch barrels and it was good advice. when he screwed the barrel on the action and the barrel came in contact with the receiver he said let the lock screw finish turning the barrel on center. This make removal easier.
Also switching the breach blocks from the center fire to the rim fire you need to change the extractor. It is a lot easier to switch blocks and extractors before the barrel is in place. Just make sure the action is open so the extractor is back away from the barrel.
That .22 Douglas barrel on this rifle sure is a tack driver. It's best to just leave it in place so it don't loosen up.

I still have a .28-30 Stevens Schuetzen in the plans Smile

Kurt did Paul recommend anything on the threads like oil? I've emailed Gail about this a few times but never got a reply. I think they've become a lot busier in the last 2 years.

I put a turn or so of thin teflon tape on the threads. You just have to experiment as to what snugs it up/provides some wear protection -vs- being too tight and preventing you from turning them in by hand.

I have a couple CPA's that have multi-barrel sets and show no wear on the threads. There are a couple that the teflon embedded itself into the machined surfaces of the threads, similar to how Slick 50 embeds itself into the metal parts of an engine.

Kurt, Thanks for the Info. Maybe it won't be to far off till I get mine. I have another one that I sent in last winter and had a 40/70 barrel installed. Just last weekend I finally got the nerve up to change barrel and extractor. Been shooting it this week it's a 38-56 and I shoot a 360 grain elliptical

Chris.

No Chris he did not tell me to grease it, but I have some of that white Military surplus grease like I used on the Machineguns when I was a gunner.

Bill how do you like that .38-56?
I had a 86 win in that caliber once and I thought that was a pretty good shooter even with a pitted bore.
