Old Ithaca Model 37's

As some of you saw over on the Shiloh board, I have gotten onto an old Ithaca 37 kick in 16 ga. I sold some guns to realign my collection. So far
I picked up a 1956, and have a 1952 and 1949 on the way.

The 1952 one has a vent rib installed by Simmons Gunsmithing. It currently is a full choke, I will either have it opened up, or tapped for choke tubes

The 1949 one is a "solid rib" model. It also took a trip back to New York when Ithaca was there, and had a vent rib barrel with choke tubes fitted to it.

I am restoring this one. I is going to Michigan to be lazer welded. The lazer will bring the weld just about the surface. This is a 1948 model. It was a bit misrepresented by the gunstore to say the least. Fortunately I only paid 150 for it. Investing the 100.00 to have it welded up will turn it back into a valuable old shotgun. The 2nd pic is with the rust all removed from the pits so he has clean metal to work with. I used rust and blue remover and white vinegar, along with a fine stainless steel brush.

This is what the employees of Dunkleburgers in Stroudsburg Pa calls "a little rust".............

Just started. Thanks for asking.

We got a couple squirrels the other day. Going to Pa to hunt pheasants on a preserve Monday (Nov 9th).

I have a really nice one that I messed up the barrel blueing trying to blacken some silver solder at the base of the rib posts. Once it get it repolished and blued again, I will share it.

I have a CPA 40-82 that I have to finish the wood on also. I have just been slow on guns this year. Well slow on everything. (slower than I usually am).

I hurt my shoulder somehow. Maybe doing a brake job for MK's older brother. He has health issues and their dad never taught any of the brothers how to fix their cars. (He didn't know himself). They just didn't have the money to pay someone so I fixed it and probably fixed myself.

It have been 4 weeks now of injections and the chiropractor and stretching exercises trying to relieve the pain.

Last year I grabbed a couple 20ga Ithaca 37's for cheap. I restocked them back to early 50's style. I found some stocks on eBay and grabbed them up. One of the 20's is a 28" full. One of the stocks is a 13" LOP. Just right for MK to shoot trap with.

I am going to get her shooting more with me and back into shooting her BPCR rifle again. I want her to go to Alliance and shoot.

Last December my youngest brother passed away and the M37 Deluxe I bought him in the mid 70's came back to me. A 12 ga. with a VR and 28" full choke. Took it hunting for sharptails while antelope hunting this fall Killed 7 sharpies in 3 days. Shot some crows with it also. 37's are a joy to use. The next weekend I used his old 243 to shoot an antelope buck. Not the same as hunting with someone again but as close as it gets. bobw
