Shiloh 40-65
A friend of mine is bound and determined to shoot a grease groove bullet and smokeless powder in his Shiloh 40-65. We worked up a very nice load with black powder and PP bullets but he’s just not wanting to mess with all of that sooo what do you guys that shoot this calibre recommend for a bullet and powder/powder charge etc? I’m clueless when it comes to smokeless and GG bullets in a Sharps.

Thanks
SB

Stephen, might take a look at the online data for 5744 or Blackhorn 209.

Saeco 740 with 21 grains of 5744 is what my friends 40/65 likes, its a pedersoli.

I suggest you try out Reloader 7. It works great and very accurate in my 38-55 and my 45-70 hunting rifles.
It shoots clean, and it is fine grained and meters well.

That and IMR 4759 are what I would try if I was to "dirty" my 40-65 with that new fangled type powder.

Thanks Don, we are doing alright. Not many rigs running so business is slow. It will pick up eventually, I just got to survive it.
