RE: NRA Black Powder Long Range Target Match - September 2013, Central PA
Looks like I joined here just a tad too late to get the info on this match. I would have liked to drop over and meet some of the shooters and observe the match. Hopefully I can stop by for the next one. I am also looking forward to seeing the info on the other long range matches in the North East.
If it would be of any help to anyone, I live less than an hour from both Read Range and Ridgway.
Don, thanks for running such a nice forum

Sam, we had a nice match and it would have been great to have you come down and check it out. In fact we had about as many spectators and prospective shooters as we had guys that shot! Several of the regulars could not make it due to various reasons like rifle is with the gunsmith, recent shoulder surgery, bought a piece of land and I'm building a house etc. Had 7 shooters and it was a wonderful day. Looks like next year we should have more than usual shooting. I hope to get our usual May date back that we didn't get this year (this could be a tall order as Reade has many types of matches and weekends are at a premium) but I am certain we will get this same weekend in September again at a minimum. Next BPCTR LR is Quantico VA the weekend after next. I can't make that one myself but there is usually a good turn out there. Mid Range is held at Quantico as well along with Millville NJ.

I am glad to here you had a decent turn out. It was most certainly a wonderful day for that kind of shoot. I am also glad to hear that Read is now very active. As far as I know ( and that ain't all that far) Read wasn't all that active for quite some time. Glad to hear that it is busy, it would be a shame to loose any range, and especially one where you can shoot to 1000 yds. If you keep this site informed of the upcoming dates I will do my best to keep an eye out for the announcement and at a minimum stop over and do a meet and greet.
At this point I don't know when I might have all I need to be able to compete but hopefully some day things will fall together. Right now I don't think that my 45-70 will crank out enough speed to meet the minimum but there is a 44-77 in the works and that should make the grade. Hopefully it will, with the right loads shoot well enough that I don't embarrass my self with misses and berm shots.
The only down side to Read being that busy is it would make it pretty hard to get over there on a weekend to do some practice and get sight settings. But where there is a will I am sure that there is a way to work around that little problem.

Hip's, any chance you can post any pics of the match? Do they shoot over cross sticks or do you need a wrist rest? Since I have in the past shot those silly wet steel targets and also dabbled in High Power I have most every things else I would need, Cotton Coat, mat, scope.
Are you and SSShooter coming to Ridgway the end of this month?

Yep, I got everything needed except a rifle I would feel comfortable with shooting that far. I know my 45-70 will reach, but I don't think it will make the minimum speed. When I get my 44-77 done and up and running I will definitely be giving this game a try. Since I am retired, I do have a fair amount of time on my hands so if you guys are up to practice and need a "pit pig" let me know. I would be more than willing to lend you a hand and I even have radios if needed.
