I do not know of any loading job more boring than anealing but it is one of the most interesting subjects to read about. So many opinions. Aneal or not to aneal, how often, how hot, quench or air cool. Top shooters do differ opinions. Very interesting subject. Compression ranks 2nd closely.

I hated annealing so much that I just stopped resizing my cases.....Problem solved!!

Accuracy seemed maintain just fine too.

Thanks Kurt!...I have found "no-single-variable" that would effect groups as positively as annealing. I saw groups shrink from 12"++ to less than 5 inches at 300yards just by annealing cases.

But that being said,...In the game where consistency trumps all, there are so many variables removed completely by not sizing and seating to firmly touch the lands.

So many things that just don't play into the equation for me anymore...no more annealing, or sizing... no need to worry about fancy custom expander dies, case length, neck tension, case belling, crimp ,run-out...they just don't play into the equation anymore...they may play into the equation, but their number is zero.

The loads have led me to a few top 3 winners circles, so I know the theory is working about as well as anyone else's




And my soft lube forms a vacuum seal that holds my bullets in the case plenty well....I use my silhouette loads for hunting... They carry just fine in my canvas cartridge belts,a nd I have never lost a bullet. The only thing I cannot do is unload my rifle cause the bullets stick in the chamber...but I would rather shoot them out anyway!!!

Oh yeah, he is at the tannery right now. Not going to get it mounted or rugged...just tanned as I think this makes 'em more "user-friendly"

He was not too big, but his fall coat is so long and think. I was really happy with such a great color too...I just had to do something with the hide. I rendered all the tallow too and it makes the best pancakes you ever tasted. The tallow is snow white and almost no odor.

I don't know how you went about rendering the fat, fried out or water cook out into a lard?
But if you finish rendering out into a hard tallow, something you cant spread with a knife, that bear tallow alone makes a very good bullet lube.
Good move on the hide. That would be the way I would go also. I made a mistake last fall with the Buff I shot, leaving the hide behind. He had a fine hide for a Sept. kill. I should have brain or Oak bark tanned it.
