NRA BPTR Awards - Don McDowell - 02-25-2015
There has been some question/discussion about what constitutes a match in bptr competition, and how different awarsds are passed out.
If you go to the rule book on NRA's web site rule 1.7 paragraph e discusses classified matches.
Also the shooters handbook given to shooters who have entered the National championship breaks it down pretty easy.

Don, I just read over your posting and it makes little to no sense to me. I am thinking someone needs to hire a proofreader or a new proofreader. This is worse than trying to make sense out of the stuff politicians write in legalease.

Sam what it says is that each class is a match unto itself. IE the people classified as Expert are shooting in a separate match as those in Marksman. All shooters are eligible for the overall/open trophy. But in the end the person that wins the scope class is in this case the scope national champion. If a person that wins the overall or open title, then the next highest person in that class gets the class title. In other words you won't be awarded high Sharpshooter and National Champion, you will be awarded the National Champion, but the next score behind will be the national class (sharpshooter) champion.

that clarifies what was said the other day , you may be a lower score than another but still win the class.

Dean, yes exactly. Altho the only way someone with the lower score wins the class is if the person that should of got first place won the open or overall score. (So while that person was trying to go on about his "honesty" he should of put a caveat on there about he may or may not of been being completely honest)
A word here about folks that maybe thinking of taking in the bptr nationals. Get to a sillouette match or two and get classed and bring your score book, so that you aren't dumped straight into the master class.. You can establish a class with one sillouette match, you start at master but the score at the end of the day will be your class going forward, until your scores move you to another class.. In bptr it takes 60 rounds for each discipline in a registered match to get classified. That means starting cold you will shoot two midrange matches before you get classed in that discipline of midrange. There are two disciplines in midrange, postion and prone. Creedmoor it takes 60 rounds for score to get classified.

Yes Don, I understand the winning of Overall, and then the next high score takes the high for their classification. That part makes sense to me. What has me confused, and that is not hard to do is the classification, Yes Master=Master, but when did AAA, AA, A &B all get rolled into the Expert Class? Where did the Sharpshooter an Marksman classes disappear to? Thats what really has me confused.

Ohhh, I got ya. Yes that's a misprint in the book, AA is sharpshooter and A/B is Marksman

The NRA is slow for upgrading the classifications. I hold a Masters in the long range and the last couple years I have not shot a masters score. I just looked it up and I'm still listed as a master.

Kurt for you to be reclassified down , you have to request it, and you can't request it until you have fired 320 consequetive shots for score at a lower class, and then if you shoot back into master they will move you back up and you won't ever be able to request lowering again..
