Howdy Kurt and points West. This is second attempt today to respond so please pardon if there is duplications. First wish is that you have speedy recovery of carbon life form repairs too. Secondly I'm trying to post photo so as to save 1K words here. The new (to me) Ruger #1 project to make stable PB hurler is coming along. Just for adding a little eye candy a photo attachment is being tried. After all this 45-70 is a humble American designed and manufactured as single stuffer by American labor.

That sure is a fine looking shooter!!. Nothing wrong with the #1.
I had three, .22 Hornet, .22-250 and a .25-06 and they all went down the road. I do regret selling the little .22 Hornet.

Over the years, had a couple #3s, in the Hornet. Onrey little rascal was hard to get it to group. But the #1s are a different shooter altogether. Have 2 in 22-250V, and are a real danger near a p'dog town! Much fun,

I had to drill and tap the forearm mounting bracket and place a screw through it to put tension on the barrel and that greatly improved the accuracy.

I shot the throat out of my 1A 30-06, been going to get it rebarreled, but got to many other irons in the fire at the moment.

Great comments from the Bill Ruger club. I had a number one in 6mm Rem that was featured in this deal. That rifle had actually been out to Baker Mt. area on previous PD hunt. It was a go to rifle at dogs over 300-400 yds. The forearm hanger was also drilled and tapped for tuner. Actually how it is related is it went down road to dealer in trade for this 45-70 #1. It was one of what they call now "pre warning" era and the trader really wanted it. It fetched twice the amount I'd paid for it plus had been a good shooter for my turn with it. In previous photo the balance point is right about were that cartridge is standing.
With the Breako mercury recoil reducer installed and all total weight is 12 lbs. I put all that hide on the butt stock to protect some beautiful wood. As it appears this project is intended a shooter and not a safe Queen. At about 1300 fpm speed limit for all loads this rifle should make a good rehab tool for wimpy shoulder while it heals.
