RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-21-2012 hear ya go Lumpy Grits, sorry for the bad picture quality same load except .001 +/- neck tension 2 damp patches down the barrel between each shot 3.8 inch outside measurement 200 yards
RE: "Tweaking" a load - Lumpy Grits - 06-21-2012 Your on the right track. ![]() Try next .001-.002 NT. Have you annealed the cases yet? That should be your next step. Try a "lite" full lenght sizing also. LG RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-21-2012 by "lite" do you mean probably 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of the case? I only have 1 expander, it measures .407, every bullet from the PJ mould that I measure is .408 yes, my brass is annealed RE: "Tweaking" a load - Lumpy Grits - 06-21-2012 By "lite", I mean reduce the OD at the cases middle about .002-.003 at most. Back off the FL die 5-6 full turns off the shell holder and go from there. FWIW: I use to NS only in both my .45-70 and .45-90. Got talked into trying FL "lite" and have been doing that after the target said it helped. If you want to try different expander dia. look at Buffallo Arms. http://www.buffaloarms.com/.385_.449_custom_expanders_pr-4167.aspx Gary RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-22-2012 LG, I did a "lite FL" with same load, 2 damp patches, group opened up 1 inch from yesterday, coulda been the finger but I was feeling good about each shot RE: "Tweaking" a load - Lumpy Grits - 06-22-2012 WOW sorry about that.![]() How different was the weather today that when you fired that group you photo'od In my .45's, Lite F/L sizing tightened things up. Try varing the powder load up & down. Gary RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-22-2012 Weather was basically the same, my thoughts also in powder change, Cheers RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-24-2012 LG, I did another 10 shot group today at 200 yds, 4.08 inches, I did just a hair more on the lite sizing, down another full turn, will probably go up 1.0 gr powder on next 10 RE: "Tweaking" a load - Lumpy Grits - 06-24-2012 Remember. Just do 1 change at a time. Have you played with different primers? Gary RE: "Tweaking" a load - chaneylake - 06-24-2012 (06-24-2012, 04:47 PM)Lumpy Grits Wrote: Remember. Just do 1 change at a time. Going to work with powder first before I make a primer change |
