Most ranges go with that ammo restriction, so it's a good thing to work on. But whether they do at Quantico or not I couldn't say.

Good to know. My google skills are lacking today couldnt find a web page for them. I will keep looking and keep burning powder Big Grin

Jeremy there's a range at Buckner NC that shoots a good bit of bptr etc..

RE: Range time - JReed - 03-18-2015

Oh! Will have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up.

RE: Range time - JReed - 03-18-2015

Did you mean Butner?

RE: Range time - Don McDowell - 03-18-2015

Something like that..

JR, It sounds like your ww alloy is plenty hard all right. I agree that hard ww bullets will shoot lousy and lead badly. However, you can anneal your ww bullets in your kitchen oven, and they will end up close to the hardness of 30:1 L/T alloy and perform very well w/ minimal leading. You can win matches w/ them in that condition.

IR

Neat trick IR hadnt heard that before. It is usually not a problem as I have a source for pure lead and can add tin to stiffen it up a touch as needed. These pills were cast by a friend hence the WW. They work well in his gun as he has a tight chamber Pedersoli. They dont works so well in a lose 1870's military chamber Smile

Don I looked up the range doesnt look like they have BPCR on the schedule this year. It is a National Guard Camp maybe the CO doesn't care for BP. Will keep looking into it. There is a place in Fayetteville that goes to 300 yards that is 2 hour 40 minutes from here. Shoot starts @ 0830 on every 3rd Saturday. Will have to see if they have camping.

closer look shows those are long range muzzle loader events at Butner. The first one is about the 15th of next month.
