Recently, I received 300 Remington 45/70 cases for exclusive use in the Shiloh. Most measured 2.095+/-. On a suggestion from Don, I picked-up a case-stretcher from BACO. $40 well spent, as I found those Remingtons are soft and it takes about 5 sec. to get another 0.005 to 0.010 with it. The manufacturer says as much as 0.020 can be obtained with a min. amount of time.

In the past, I have always FL sized all cases. But recently, I have tried no sizing at all. I hand seat the GG bullet. My groups are as good now as prior testing. Just have to be sure the OAL is where it needs to be, very close, if not touching softly in the rifle throat. Strangly though, I had to try different PRIMERS in order to get the groups small again.
The test rifle is a Shiloh Sharps, 45/70.

i have started without resizing my Cases and receive good results on papertarget for me. after reading some books and threads i began with full and necksizing my cases but could not see any improvement. My last Batch are resized only a little so far that i will be able to press in the Bullets by hand . I like the feeling that the bullets do not fall out by holding the case upside down.
Maybe this last try will give me a better performance otherwise i come back to unsized cases

Follow-up on the case stretching operation.
After working with only 10 new Remington cases, and ending with avg. case length of 2.105", the primers, powder and bullets were loaded in. Total bullet run-out for all ten rounds is 0.000" !!!!!
Next is a trip to the range, maybe next week, as daytime temps. are forcast for over 100* for the rest of this week.

Summer temps are a good time to see how your lube and fouling control works.
