RE: Dan T 45-90 pp - Don McDowell - 06-20-2016 They are a very tight fit with 8 lb paper, and won't fit with 9 lb. They also must be seated very deep. If they were a greaser they would be seated to or just over the driving band.. 75 gr of OE 1.5 is all that will fit without bulging the case. Now the trick will be to see if they shoot as well on the next few trips out. Hoping maybe to have them tested, and proved with enough fire formed cases for the Rocky Mtn regional...But the 10 days at the nationals is going to cut into a ton of load testing time. RE: Dan T 45-90 pp - bruce moulds - 06-21-2016 don, is your bore bigger than 0.450"? if it is 0.450, why not consider a baco money bullet of about 535 gns, at 0.445 before patching. in fact that twist will take a bullet 1.5" long easily, and probably 1.55" long, so could go heavier. this would allow you to use the full potential of the 2.4" case capacity while being rewarded by excellent bullet alignment with all but 1/8" of it in the barrel. keep safe, bruce. RE: Dan T 45-90 pp - Don McDowell - 06-21-2016 Bruce, first you need to understand that this was just a "lets load this and see what happens" thing. Second, you can see that at 600 yds, with no spotter no wind flags , and a fishtailing crosswind, the sort of group this thing is capable of. The question then becomes why not feed the rifle what it's telling you it likes? RE: Dan T 45-90 pp - Gunlaker - 06-24-2016 Some of my best loads have come from occasional random experiments :-). Hopefully you get it all ready in time for Byers. I'm going to bring my Dan T PP rifle as well as my Borchardt as sort of a side by side comparision. I've got some fireforming to do too. If you want, I have all of the load data that Dan sent me for his chambers. Chris. RE: Dan T 45-90 pp - Don McDowell - 06-24-2016 I don't know Chris , if I'll get this thing ready for Byers or not. Haying isn't cooperating to well, and I still have to load enough ammo for the Nationals... So time is a bit on the tight side.. |
