RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - ken s - 07-22-2016 yup, that's the plan....I'll fire it, set it, then put in a small detente screw that will be level and unseen.... wonder how many old timers actually did that? Ken RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - Fogman01 - 07-22-2016 I ordered mine without the screw. It has a 7/16 allen screw hole where it is hardly noticeable to adjust and set the eyepiece. You have to get real close to even see it. I know I have to carry an allen wrench if I want to change the adjustment, but I plan to set the sight up for 200 yds and leave it for awhile. This rifle is not for competition so I don't really care about "easy" adjusting. I have to carry allen wrenches if I want to adjust the red dot on my S&W 500 revolver too. I got this sight because it is the closest thing I could get to an original sight for a rifle that I wanted to look like an original buffalo rifle. And it does look pretty cool. I took it out, and just left it, and you can't see the hole anyway, because it's SMALL! ![]() Ken RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - ken s - 07-23-2016 (07-19-2016, 04:28 PM)Stephen Borud Wrote: What twist did you get in you Big 50? Nice rifle too!Hi Stephen, my Shiloh 50 90. 20 yrs old, has a #1 heavy barrel, 30 inch, with the older 36 inch twist. I use a 600 grain postel type bullet, and it prints 2 inches or less at 100. 85, 1/12 swill, 030 card, and two newspaper wads...slight compression. you need the longer bullet to stabilize in that twist, but it sure works.....Ken RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - ken s - 07-23-2016 [attachment=749] (07-21-2016, 05:25 PM)bobw Wrote: Ken sounds good... Pull the thumbscrew put in a little delrin slug and tension it with a set screw that you can't see sticking out. bobw Ok, that was tough. 7 minutes....one dremmel and done. I'm going to ask Thunder Mountain to make me a good one... I really had to light it up to even see it! Ken RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - bobw - 07-23-2016 Damn nice work and no charge for the advice. Sure makes a guy feel good to come up with a practical solution that works. How easy does the windage bar drift for adjustment.? bobw RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - ken s - 07-24-2016 (07-23-2016, 11:14 PM)bobw Wrote: Damn nice work and no charge for the advice. IF I EVER GET MY DARN 74 BACK FROM THE GUNSMITH AND CAN SIGHT IT IN......... oh well....Ken RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang - Fogman01 - 07-26-2016 I just called Shiloh - they said the twist in a 50 cal is 1/22 unless you specify otherwise. So that's what mine has. It seems to shoot 600gr real well. I measured it at 1/36 years ago, but..Accurate! wow. that big bullet really prints in tiny holes at 100. I find a really tight shoulder hold works well....on all my BP guns.. Burnside Spencer, Sharps 68 carbine, 74 Sharps sporting rifle, etc. deadens the hammer blow....Ken |
