RE: Olde Eynsford , again. - Old Jim - 04-29-2013 I'll be at the range at first light on Tuesday. Got a few 5 shot loads with Old E 1.5. Some with 0.250, 0.265 compression. Some NK sized, some FL sized. A loading process problem here; My Hornady BP measure that I have owned for 10 years surely does NOT like this powder! It will not drop the same wt. twice, varying 0.2-0.4 gr. /drop. Thinking it have bit the dust, I cleaned it out, finding a little gummy BP crap coating the drum. Then I dumped in a 1/2 tube of 1.5 Swiss .... only 0.01 gr. diff, so ...! Then, I opened another can of Old E and spread a little on a paper towel, then spread a little powder from the first can and magnified looking and crushing a little under my finger, WALA! The first can of powder, after opening, it had drawn moisture. The loading room stays at about 40% hum. all the time, against the outside hum. of 60-80% most of the time. I will shoot all those loads anyway and will file a report. RE: Olde Eynsford , again. - Don McDowell - 04-29-2013 Jim your troubles with the measure is one of the things that I like so well about the Lyman dps, it just drops whatever powder you pour in the drum at or within .1 of a grain of whatever weight you tell it,each and everytime. |
