RE: I think it's time - Don McDowell - 07-29-2013 Been thinking about one of those 44-100's RE: I think it's time - Kurt - 07-29-2013 Well I have two reamers for that Caliber but you will not seat a naked ring bullet in that chamber. RE: I think it's time - Don McDowell - 07-29-2013 Kurt I'm becoming more of one of those "paper patch" snobs they were fussing about on the Shiloh board the other day. Paper patching doesn't come easy, but once a fella gets it figured out what his rifle will or won't digest, it's sure hard to even chamber a greaser.. RE: I think it's time - Kurt - 07-30-2013 I don't get myself cornered on just one type of bullet Don, I use what works best in my rifles. My .50 and the .40-70 takes the GG and the rest shoot best using the PP. The .44-77 has the standard 45 degree chamber end and it plagues me with paper rings but I get the best accuracy using the PP in it. As soon as I get the throating reamer that wall will be taken out. You need to feed the rifle with a bullet it will shoot. People put too much hokus pokus with the PP or gg for that matter. RE: I think it's time - Don McDowell - 07-30-2013 With the 45-70 I can go either way, sort of prefer the grease groove, and that might be due to never finding THE patched load. But when it comes to the 44-77 I'm a die hard patched man. Paper rings in this rifle go away with the larger bullet diameter and thin paper. Anxious to see how the #3 reacts to various loads, when it gets back home with the new 44 barrel. Don you talking about me? I thought I was exceedingly polite to that guy. He was a whiner and didn't have a clue, can't even imagine what Kenny W would have said to him. I guess I should have just asked him "how he personally knew the bs he was saying was true"?I shoot greasers in my Trapdoor, 86 Lwt, and occ in my 40-70 BN for a gallery load (50 yds).My 45 would not even begin to chamber a greaser loaded shell and spent way to many years and effort getting ppb's to shoot in 50-3.25" to ever shoot greasers in it again. When people say things that are untrue and misinform others who don't know are we to let it pass? What he said was a dumb statement and I called him on it. I was polite, all be it maybe to blunt for his lack of reality. I am getting real leary of sharing anything I've learned that can help others on their way. When I see PC as a bonafide Constitutional Amendment maybe I'll consider it then. And yeah I still appreciate you guys's backing my point, I'm just short on patience with fools and anykind of liberals or their bs. bobw RE: I think it's time - Ironramrod - 07-30-2013 BobW., I thought you and others did a good job of answering the questions in that thread, and explaining the advantages/attributes of pp bullets. Based on his responses I wasn't sure he really knew what he wanted to know except maybe to be some sort of guru or something. Anyway, ya did fine; keep up the good work, and I appreciate your posts on what works and what doesn't. ![]() Regards RE: I think it's time - Don McDowell - 07-30-2013 No Bob not talking about you, after all I would assume that you were one of the "paper patch snobs" that all the slings and daggers were directed at, by the idjut that claimed in his own diatribe that he had never loaded patched loads, but still felt compelled to tell the world about all the pitfalls.. Like Steve just said, you done good, we tried to answer the OP's question, but it fell on deaf ears, and then someone took the latch off the doors of the peanut gallery.. RE: I think it's time - Kurt - 07-30-2013 I'm very selective who I will reply to with information I myself know what works from what I use. Many times I have been burned by guys that say I have been loading or shooting black powder and PP for many years and then the pissing matches start when I give what I found out by doing, or the countless hours I spend every winter studding alloys and what various loads do the bullets. There are a lot of what I call Parrots that repeat what they read that is right or wrong. I just won't do it anymore. You did right Bob in a civil manner. Kurt RE: I think it's time - Don McDowell - 07-30-2013 Kurt there are more folks than you'll ever know appreciate the information you have freely shared. I know I probably haven't thanked you enough for the information I've gleaned from your trials and tribulations, and being able to put some of that to good use in my rifles. We need a great big tip of the hat smiley.. |
