RE: Elk ? - Don McDowell - 12-10-2012

We got about 30 deer trying to raid the haystack everynight. (of course the game and fish says they'll die eating alfalfa...) but not hide nor hair of the elk.

Your kidding ???? alfalfa is about the only hay grown around here and deer are feeding on it in the evenings around here Don.
Maybe G&F mean they get shot and end up in the freezers----

No they claim deer will die from starvation with a belly full of alfalfa... They also say deer and antelope never eat anything but browse.... Apparently afalfa, wheat, oats, corn and beans are members of the browse family???

RE: Elk ? - Kurt - 12-10-2012

Didn't know that.
Wonder what they are finding out in the hay fields they like. I know they sure like my Pin Oak Tongue

G&F been trying to pull that one over for as long as I can remember.. nobody that's seen the damaged crops ever swallowed that for even a second.

Yeh thats like there are no wolfs in Illinois or big cats that people are reporting.

Yep, I remember now from an old plant taxonomy course. Alfalfa belongs to the Family Browsidaceae!Wink
