The bullet is patched to .439" one thousands over bore diameter. Kurt RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Kurt - 11-03-2014 (11-03-2014, 06:38 PM)Lumpy Grits Wrote: Beautiful work Kurt! Thank you Gary. I really like the way the Tung oil finished the wood. I ended up with six coats and the final sanding I used 800 grid and finished using 0000 steel wool for the final rubdown and used the blue shop towel paper to make it feel like silk when you rub your hand over the wood. Really turned out well. Kurt RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Lumpy Grits - 11-03-2014 Kurt-Thanks for the tips on finishing. How long would you let the t'oil sit on the wood before wiping off excess? Gary RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Kurt - 11-03-2014 It should sit two days but I rushed it some but the last I let it sit for three days before finishing the last coat. I rubbed all coats on by bare hand and wet sanded it with 600 grid and wiped off the excess with the shop rag. When it was dry I dry sanded it and left the dust on and added more by hand and rubbed this in and wiped it off cross grain using the paper towel and let dry. I did this for every coat but the last I used 800 grid and rubbed it down with the steel wool and shop towel. RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Lumpy Grits - 11-03-2014 Noted, and THX! Gary RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - J.B. - 11-03-2014 Kurt did you use pure tung oil.. or a dilution with gum turpentine ?. Whatever... it looks magic. I'm not into the high gloss finishes and beautiful grained timber barely highlighted with oil just looks magic. Great job. RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Kurt - 11-04-2014 J.B. I use straight low gloss Formby's oil. RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Gussy - 11-04-2014 Hey Kurt, I DO expect to see this beast in June!! RE: My new .44-75 Ballard - Kurt - 11-04-2014 Gussy I will even let you shoot it........maybe
