I couldn't figure out why he did that when he had such a nice start. I cant hear the audio so I don't know if he is doing any explaining. Maybe he was demonstrating using a air side grinder could be used for that.Going through more sites paging down there is a video of making a round ball mould that is interesting too.
If you go to u tube and put in a search for making moulds and cherries you will get some pretty good ideas.
I gave up on my Sheldon Lathe and I think I will part it out and start with a new one. I miss making things with the lathe. I looked at the Grizzly Gun Smiting Lathe on line and I think I will make a trip down to the outlet store and look at it.

Haha yep he is a grinder! I guess in my mind I'm thinking the cherry needs to look perfect, guess not as long as it cuts. I don't know what I would do without a lathe and a mill. You better get yourself another one.

As a newbie so came to this site saw this and got curious so read thru this whole thread.
Here is my take on this machine up the blocks, pin, hinge, fit handles stc so all but the bullet cavity is finished. Make a proper size pilot hole then have the mold cavity done with EDM machining an a CNC EDM machine just supply the print.
EDM has all but replaced standard machining for injection molds. It is exclusively used for medical metalic stuff. It is amazing what can be made now with that procedure. In my work we used it only to remove broken studs and bolts from engine parts mostly aluminum as small as 10-28. Takes the broken threaded part out and leaves the threads like new.
Just my 03cts worth.

Your correct Jim. The expence prohibits it's use for BPCR molds. We don't require hardened tool steel for mold blocks and CNC turning provides excellent accuracy in the fine grain cast iron currently used for the finest molds today
