Cleaning The Slug Gun and Patches - Kenny Wasserburger - 06-12-2012 My current method of cleaning between shots has been one wet down to the powder bed area let soak for 10 seconds while I remove the sealed Ignition. Then this patch is up and tossed, a second wet patch both sides. 1 dry patch both sides, Then the loading tube. I do not oil the barrel but use .003 100% cotton rag vellum paper cross patches, lubed with Nye Oil as Via Rich Hicks. This seems to have pretty excellent accuracy. Thoughts, suggestions, I have tried Freezer paper and the rifle runs well with it, but of course it is not Legal in NRC Matches. KW The Lunger RE: Cleaning The Slug Gun and Patches - drcook - 06-13-2012 Kenny, It was a shame that Rich Hicks passed away. He was a pretty nice guy. He is who Dave Casey flew in to Ohio here to shoot with at Canal Fulton. I had driven down there to the range to watch them shoot a couple times. Dave Casey is into the slug guns also. Dave RE: Cleaning The Slug Gun and Patches - Kenny Wasserburger - 06-14-2012 Oh yeah Brother Casey and I shoot together now and then mostly at Cody in the NRC Matches. Brother Dave has the coolest Barnes Picket rifle I have ever seen off the charts on the cool factor and Dave shoots it quite well. KW The Lunger RE: Cleaning The Slug Gun and Patches - Kenny Wasserburger - 07-05-2012 Winds continue here so no slug gunning today. Had hope to try a shorter patch, It did cool down into the lower 90's though. KW The Lunger |
