CPA 44 1/2 - Don McDowell - 09-23-2014
Took the new rifle out today. It's definetly a long range rifle. The lowest I could get the sights and still see thru them, I shot about 6 ft over the 200 yd target. So we moved out to 600 and went to work.
Load was 81 grs of 1.5 Olde Eysnford, in the BACO stretched Remington cases, rp 9 1/2 primers, and a .030 fiber wad under the RCBS 82084 bullet lubed with Bullshop Nasa.

That sure is a nice figure in the wood.
It looks like they have the sight base turned around. Maybe if you turn the base so the staff is lower you will get on the 200.

This is a .45-90, correct??

Kurt that comb is so high that there's no way to get the sight down low enough to shoot below maybe 500 yds. I had it set as low as I could get it and still see thru it, and shot way way over the 200 yd target. Moved back to 600, brought the sight up 5 minutes and got on steel, a few more minutes and we were at the mid point.
It's a long range gun.

Gary yes it's 45-90, it's got the Baldwin front and rear that came on it.

Can you put a taller front sight on it-maybe??

Yes a riser in the front sight would get it to shooting closer, but heck I've got a 1/2 dozen rifles that can shoot close. I'm going to leave this bugger as a long ranger. Between the moulds I have on hand, the moulds that are coming with Old Jim's rifle, and the BACO slick I ordered with the certificate from the Q, I bet I can find something that'll kick me right out of the Marksman class, and make me shoot with the big boys...

That's a very decent group for the 1st whack at it out of the box at 600 yds. Nicely done. BTW a very nice rifle, beautiful stock and I really like the looks of that high comb for longer range shooting.
Congrats on your shooting at Raton, and not to worry re: results. One always starts somewhere, and typically that is on square #1.
