Buy guns on line - Sfc Hawk - 07-23-2015

Don't know how many of you guy buy guns on line. But I've bought a few and most of the time I do ok. But the other day I took a chance on a 1884 springfield carbine 45-70 and got bit. It looked good on line but should have ask for more pictures. It was a good fake the person that did was good. Had the saddle ring the right trigger guard the cartuch was right. So I got it and when I open the box I started getting worried. The rear sight had a R stamped on it, The butt plate was a rifle, got my calibers barrel was too thick, pulled the trigger guard off, there should be 6 holes under the trigger guard there were 7 it was a cut down rifle. So I thought since I am stuck with it lets fake it on out, put a carbine butt plate on it drill out cleaning rod hole but not deep, put on a Buffington carbine rear sight. looks pretty good. The best thing it shoots well. I would never sell it as a real carbine but I will have fun with it. Also picked up a couple 1849 colts one out of Texas and the other out of Arizona, after a little resurch maybe I'll have another story for you

I have bought rifles from sellers on this site and have sold rifles to buyers on this site.

The best of both worlds here, nice rifles and honest folks,

Buying guns on online auction is kind of a crap shoot and sometimes you loose focus in the heat of the bidding. You know your paying to much but just can't let her go. The Colts I got are good. everything crisp shootable. One is a 4 inch barrel and the other is 6 inch. The 4 inch has 4 notchs in the grip which a could mean anything. 4 rabbits 4 snakes just never know. I had a Colt Police Postive once that had a badge number engraved on it and it had 3 notches filed into trigger guard. It was in 32-20 made in the late 20s or early 30s
