Got a dumb question for you. How do you presoak the darn things and not have them so weak that the wiping rod pokes a hole thru them?
Carol won a bunch of those the other day, and I'ld like to get them ready for her to use at the Utah State match this next week..
The wiping solution we usually use is 7 -1 Napa oil and water.

I am very careful centering the patch on the jag and gently start it in the chamber. When chambered it makes contact with the walls and I start it into the bore and go from there. Have washed them and tried to use them a second time and a lot fail so now I use once and toss. I use them for range practice and have started using the Sagebrush 2.5 round patches for match shooting. Wish the old ones were still available. Don, correct me if I'm wrong but it's 7 parts water to 1 part Napa? right?

Don I use them in my .40-65. They are definitely weak, the main thing I like about them is that they don't stick together as much as cotton ones. I start them very gently like Eric says, but sometimes they still push through. When I run out of this batch I might look for something else.
I once did a test where I took patches from a bunch of different manufacturers and saturated them in water an then weighed them to see how much water carrying capacity they had. The arsenal patches carried much less water than cotton ones. I talked with Dan about that and he also liked the Sage Outfitters patches.

I normally use Proshot patches, very high quality and dense material that do a great job. Just have these and thought I'ld see what others were doing with them. I bought some of the arsenal patches a few years ago, and still have most of those.. Guess we'll hang on to these for a rainy day.

I won a bag of those and also pushed the rod through. I finished using them for cleaning the rifle, not on line.
Carolyn just got me 4 yards of 100% cotton flannel from walmart for $12. That makes more then a grocery bag full of 1-1/2" patches that fit snug to last most of the shooting I do in a year.
They even work better when you recycle them through the washer a couple times.
