Freezer is full - Kurt - 09-28-2015 Freezer is full. I took a very nice fat yearling with the .44-77 with 74 gr 3F OE and a 486 gr 1/40 tin/lead alloy PP of the original sharps profile at 135 yards That yearling weight in at 376# hanging weight. ![]() [URL=http://s704.photobucket.com/user/Kurtalt/media/IMG_2508_zpsekfob5lr.jpg.html] [/URKurt RE: Freezer is full - Stephen Borud - 09-28-2015 Very good Kurt! Lots of good eating ahead of you! SB RE: Freezer is full - rdnck - 09-28-2015 That works, big time! That paper patched bullet and black powder flat out gets the job done. That is one gorgeous rifle that is not just a safe queen. Congratulations on a job well done. Shoot straight, rdnck. RE: Freezer is full - Sarge - 09-28-2015 OUTSTANDING! I assume there was holes through both of the hanging halves? Sarge RE: Freezer is full - Mike - 09-28-2015 Kurt, Another outstanding shot! Good doin's, for sure. Shoot sharp, Mike RE: Freezer is full - Kurt - 09-29-2015 TNX guys. All shots passed through. I put three shots through the lungs just above the heart and I put the last behind his ear that passed through the top of his skull and just about took off the horn on the back side. The first shot was enough if I waited it out it would have put him down. They sure are tough animals. I used the scope because the misty rain that was falling and the haze setting in made me a little Leary using the barrel sights. But after it was all over I took the scope off and looked across the sights at the heard and the front sight really showed up on the dark hide. I could have used it with out a problem. It was a great harvest. Rick and Doris (Sandhill outfitters) treated us like we where part of their family. Heck I even put on 5 1/2 pounds eating here fine cooking LOL. Rick has a set of Quigley targets set up and we spent the next day putting dents in them. I finally had a chance to shoot my new CPA .44-75 Ballard long range and it did really well on that 800 yard buff. https://flic.kr/p/zeehxn RE: Freezer is full - Denali - 09-29-2015 That's a beaut! RE: Freezer is full - Dave Roelle - 09-29-2015 Nice Hunt Kurt, its always special when your with folks that understand what its all about !!!!!! Whats your favorite Buffler supper ? Keep well Dave RE: Freezer is full - Kurt - 09-29-2015 What ever gets put in front of me Dave. LOL. But MikeR sent me a receipt a couple weeks ago that really took my favor. A Flemish pot roast. I added some button mushrooms with it. It is so good that even the tough hump roast falls apart when you pick it up with a fork. 4 - 5 lb roast brown in 2 tablespoons oil. Set aside. 4 medium onions sliced, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 cloves garlic diced. Brown and add 2 tablespoons flour. Add can of beer, 2 table spoons of brown sugar and vinegar. Add bay leaf and 1 1/2 t salt. Return the roast and baste with liquid. Cover and simmer for two hours or bake in oven at 350. Good with any tough or dry meat. |
