32-20 - loophole - 12-17-2015
My son-in-law got interested in shooting and asked me to take some rifles
I haven't shot in a while each time we go to the range. Last Saturday I
dusted off a Moruku Browning Mod 53 in 32-20 and found some cast bullet loads I worked up before I stopped shooting for a while about 5 years ago.
A fine day to be at the range except very overcast, low contrast, making it hard to see well with a tang sight and my 70 year old eyes.
After making sure the sight was set to hit about 2" high at 50 yds, I started shooting 3 shot groups. They were all less than 2"--some about 1-1/2 ".
I started hitting sillhouetts scaled for a 200 yd range with regularity.
You boys who haven't shot a good 32-20 are missing something, and a Browning 92 or 53 is as good as a lever gun gets.
This one is back likely to get a lot more frequent use.
I even found a good source of bullets (Magnus) and a Lyman 310 die set in 32-20.

Check out the 32-20 bullets from Big Sky Components. They are working well in my Uberti 73.
Also if you have or can get some Lilgun powder, give that a whirl.

I've ordered 500 Big Sky 115 gr bullets. Olsen's mold throws BB bullets, which I've rarely gotten to shoot really well in a rifle. You think they will give accuracy as good as plain base?
Some of the rounds I loaded a few years ago used a swaged swc bullet and shot as well as the rnfb bullets. Any body know where I can get them in .313" dia?

I got some very good accuracy from them in the limited amount I've shot them from a rifle. The "bevel" on those isn't all that pronounced as we see on some of the commercial cast pistol bullets.

Haven't shot any yet.
Many reloaders recommend annealing Starline cases because the necks come from the factory too hard. Works for me with bigger calibres, but I found that when I heat the neck of my 32-20 case the brass often melts as it gets red. If the case looks OK I found that the thin 32-20 neck is so soft it often deforms when sized. No more annealing of 32-20 case necks for me.

Steve I used to get a lot of Magnus cast bullets in 44 and 45 when Natchez handled them, I really liked those bullets.
These starline brass I just got for the 32-20 don't appear to need annealing, they certainly aren't as hard as the 45-90's.
