Egg shaped top holes and a pile of venting lines on top! How does it cast?

RE: Take a gander..... - Rick Mulhern - 02-06-2016

Stephen

Cast OK BUT....leaves inconsistent sprues and THAT ain't worth the proverbial hoot!

Here's a reply back from Lee:

Hey Rick,
That is normal after use of the mold.
It is just cosmetic.

Sincerely,
Raquel

I couldn't help but to reply back that his reply was BULLSHIT OF THE HIGHEST ORDER!!

Confused Good lord that's a mess. I would find another one and see if it's any better.
Swaged roundball were my choice for match shooting.

RE: Take a gander..... - Stephen Borud - 02-06-2016

Is there anyway to fix it by machining the holes round? If so I could fix it for you! It would only cost you the postage to Wyoming.

Stephen

Rick-Ask Lee what alum alloy they use.
7075-T6 would hold up better that that.

I'm DONE...with Lee!

Lyman doesn't make a 530" diameter...neither does RCBS! I've got some swaged balls coming but from what I've read those aren't anything to win an award either!!HuhSad

RE: Take a gander..... - Nuclearcricket - 02-06-2016

I took a chance and took a look and NEI offers a .530 round ball mold. I dont know if they offer it in iron or not but their aluminum molds are pretty good and my guess a lot better than Lee.
