The wait begins - Don McDowell - 03-24-2016 I sent the check and drawing off today to Brooks to have him cut me a "tank buster" bullet , only scaled up for 45 caliber today. Also having him cut me another greaser block for the 44-77 in the original postell form but keeping the length the same as the original Ideal bullet, so it'll drop at 460 grs. That should make the 44-77 competitive at 1000 even if the wind does blow. RE: The wait begins - rdnck - 03-24-2016 Now we're getting somewhere! Shoot straight, rdnck. RE: The wait begins - Caprock - 03-24-2016 Mold collector!!!! LoL RE: The wait begins - Don McDowell - 03-24-2016 I'm hoping this new creation on the 45's does as good of a job shooting dirty as the 44 one does. And Yes my name is Don and I have a mould collecting problem... RE: The wait begins - Kurt - 03-24-2016 Heck Don every shooter should have a couple drawers full of moulds and a couple .30 caliber moisture prove ammo cans full of the good once. .I had Brooks make me a postell GG for the first .44-90 bn, the round barrel rifle you shot at Alliance but he missed the base diameter I wanted like the original Ideal postell and I wanted the bullet 1.3" long but it came 1.433" at 495 gr but it shoots so well I didn't say BOOO to him I also use that bullet in the .44-77 and it shoots well as far as the sights let me shoot.
RE: The wait begins - Don McDowell - 03-24-2016 I have that original postal from him for the 44 but it's just a tad long at 1.35 in the 77 when the wind picks up past 800, shoots good to there tho. The 44-90 st really likes that bullet tho , but I haven't shot it past 600 in that rifle. If this tank buster platform works like I hope it does in the 45's , I'll scale it down for the 40 to see how the 40-70 and 40-65 likes it. RE: The wait begins - Kurt - 03-24-2016 A good two diameter PP bullet is good. I know the once you gave me shot well. RE: The wait begins - Don McDowell - 03-24-2016 Thing I like about them is they'll shoot dirty , with a couple of breaths in the chamber, and shoot well. I decided to try to start casting my own bullets this winter. In a matter of a week or 2, I had purchased 9, yes 9, (2-Hoch, 2-Lyman, 1-PJ, 1-BACO, and 3-Boomers), molds. Still waiting on 3 of them from Boomers. All 45 caliber but 2 of them are 40 caliber. I still haven't melted one ounce of lead yet. I had a buying frenzy on moulds. Yes, my name is Kevin, and I have a problem...... RE: The wait begins - Don McDowell - 03-25-2016 Welcome Kevin we are here to help each other work thru our illness.
