Dan T 45-90 pp - Don McDowell - 05-03-2016
Took a bit of time this morning to shoot the rebarreled Browning. It was a 40-65, but now wears an Oregon barrel Co. barrel profiled like the bpcr barrel, chambered in 45-90 paper patch as per Dan Theodore. The barrel is 16 twist.
The load was the KAL TGBS .444 bullet designed for this chamber cast from 18-1, wrapped in Seth Cole 55w, set in a dukes mixture of cases that were first formed in the 44-90 st die, then expanded to take the bullet. Charge was 82 grs. OE 1 1/2 under a Napa rubber cork and a muzzle loader original dry lubed felt wad. 500 meters. Quartering headwinds from the right at 5-25 mph, clouds zipping over and mirage all over the place.
I think this thing is going to shoot.

I'm glad to see it! I'm very happy with that chamber in my rifles. I've got them in both 2.1" and 2.4" cases. If I remember correcty Eron chambered that rifle for you?
I think the felt wads really work well with the OE powder and paper patched bullets. I'm using the ones from Sage Outfitters.

Yes Eron put the gun together. Excellent job he did on it. I think this thing will shoot when i get enough brass fire formed and get to seriously developing a load.

Sometimes you just need to feed the rifle what it wants not what you think it wants.
Was going to take this thing to Eron and have him open the chamber.. So this morning I went out to shoot up the loaded rounds..Shooting at 600 yd. No spotter just watching thru the caldwell target camera.
First up was a batch of .448 money bullets seated really deep in the case so that they would just chamber. (this is the same bullet that gave Eddie such bad fits at Worland 2weeks ago)

Pay particular attention to that little cluster just to the top left of the bullseye..That's 4 rounds.

Don I think these chambers work really well once you get them sorted out. I have a few rifles now with Dan's PP chambers and they shoot really nicely. I'm glad it looks like you've got something working in that rifle.
Getting OE 1.5 to work well in that chamber took some fiddling. It was quite picky with what I used for wads. Now that I have it sorted out I'm very happy. Swiss 1.5 was a lot less picky, maybe a burn rate thing?

Chris this is that bullet that gave Eddie such fits at Worland. So I was just shooting a bunch of this stuff up to reclaim cases... Now I guess I need to get a batch fired formed and lets see what it can do.
I've found OE pretty easy to work with in about everything I've tried it in.

Wow Don how did you get those fat bullets to fit in the case mouths? I imagine they patched up to 0.453" or 0.454"?
