Removing Case Peened Lip Edge - TexasMac - 05-07-2016 Those that may have problems with “peened” cases should be interested in the subject article at the following link: http://www.texas-mac.com/Removing_Case_Peened_LIp_Edge.html Wayne RE: Removing Case Peened Lip Edge - kokomokid - 05-07-2016 Wayne, after putting a slow speed motor on my thumblers I still get case peening if I run with ss pins for much longer than an hour. I anneal after each firing so my starline cases may be a little soft. My solution was to use the largest pin gage possible in an as fired case after tumbling that can be pushed into the case easliy. For my 45-70 that was .459- and I use a size die with large enough threaded opening for the gage to go up into. RE: Removing Case Peened Lip Edge - Lumpy Grits - 05-07-2016 I run the lo-speed rotary thumbler with Dave Maurer(SP?)ceramic media. Never have had any peen'n issues. I also anneal after every firing, using S'line and R-P brass. Gary RE: Removing Case Peened Lip Edge - TexasMac - 05-08-2016 After posting the article I was informed of another very similar technique used by a fellow with the handle of Montana Charlie (aka Charlie Maxwell). Charlie developed the Kal-Max case stretcher and is a well know contributor to several of the BPCR and single-shot rifle forums. See the article for his process for removing the peened edge on .45-70 brass. Also note his technique allowing use of the same die with longer cases. Wayne |
