40-65 - Stephen Borud - 05-22-2016 Finally got the time to go out today with a friend and shoot his 40-65 Shiloh he bought used last year. He had a PP bullet mold made from Brooks based off a bullet mold that I had made from and original 40/50 BN. The only problem was that he didn't get it built as an adjustable mold. Needless to say he has a beautiful 265 grain bullet mold . We didn't know how this gun would shoot with that lite of bullet but it actually shot fairly well. The wind was humping pretty good from 15-30 mph so we kept our shots under a 150 yards. We shot at a rock about the size of a watermelon at a 150 yards and smacked it repeatedly. I had a 6" steel plate at 50 yards that died multiple times. It was fairly cool in the 50s this morning, we could shoot 6 shots without any issues but after that it would get snug enough that you didn't want to force the round in and tear the paper. I will be fun to head out again and do some more shooting with this fine rifle. We also shot the 50 2 1/2 and 50/70. Got to get my oldest son well prepared for hunting this fall. SB RE: 40-65 - Don McDowell - 05-22-2016 40-65 is a fun cartridge. RE: 40-65 - Gussy - 05-23-2016 I have 3 of them, Shiloh, Browning and trapdoor. They all like the 400 grn bullets of a Lyman Postell type. Fun guns to shoot too!! RE: 40-65 - alfajim - 05-26-2016 (05-23-2016, 12:43 PM)Gussy Wrote: I have 3 of them, Shiloh, Browning and trapdoor. Jim RE: 40-65 - Dusty Ed - 06-23-2016 [attachment=727]Howdy Fellers I have a 40-65 Built on a 1902 Mexican Rolling Block , Ron Snover Did the metal work an put one of his barrels on it. I got a stock an forearm off of Treebone an fit an finished it myself. I never shot a match with it but used for hunting I shot a couple of doe with it. That rifle is better than 20years old , Ron built that rifle when he lived in Lehighton Pa. but moved to Tennessee soon after. It is a good shooter but only has a 28"Barrel. The Rolling Block is the second from the top. RE: 40-65 - Don McDowell - 06-23-2016 Those old rollers make a gun basis for a 40-65 |
