Today is a very good day! I just received my letter from Shiloh for a Hartford 30 inch heavy barreled rifle in 44-77!! Seems a bit funny but I can not wait to send them a bunch of money. This will have Orville's paper patch chamber and will be used for hunting and steel matches. On order just a little over 1 year. Now I'll be waiting for the 1877 Match rifle also on order. Pretty nice day!!!

Well done Eric ! Be interested in your voyage of discovery with loads and bullets tried etc. Like a few on this forum , I went the way of the 44/77 and been very happy with it indeed. I'm not running the original chamber though as you will be so I'll be interested in your results. Very happy with mine. Lots of photos please when the time comes

you are gonna love that chamber , let me know if you have any trouble with the brass chambering ,I have a sizing die for the chamber

Thank you Dean. Stephen suggested that I order a Mecham bushing type neck sizer which I will do. I am really hopeing that the Jamison brass will slip into the chamber but it might be a bit too large. I'll know when I receive the rifle. What bullet and maker are you using with this chamber? Stephen suggested that I get a nose pour adjustable mold from Brooks. He sent me a couple that go .431 naked and 414 grains weight in pure lead. Patched with my paper they end up .439. I have 300 cases from the last Jamison run several years ago so they should be good to go if they slip into the chamber for fire forming. Looking forward to working with this rifle and cartridge!

Jamison should work the BACO stuff needed a little work,
I had the 310 shop build me a 310 tool for mine , I sent him a bullet and the brass , it came back perfect, and it goes with me when I travel I have a KAL gibbs mould but then I sell them. they also work good in the .44.
the .431 is about perfect with 9# paper cast soft and fits jamison brass quite well , my 310 tool makes a tight slip fit in the neck and the expander ball works as a compression die,pretty handy all the way around,

I use .434-.436 bullets and wrap in 8 # paper. When you get closer to delivery on that rifle I will send you some of my super secret bullets to try in your rifle, with the super secret stuffing so you can shoot dirty and accurate. Drop me an email or pm with your mailing addy when you are about ready to start loading. Had a good visit with Chip Mate yesterday about his road to success with the 44-77 .

I dont think the 434 bullet will chamber in the tight throat with the available brass,
