Hornay Lock and Load digital powder measure. - Don McDowell - 12-04-2016

Saw these things on sale for 169$ everywhere, so got one from Cabela's.
Reading the manual it does not say not to use with blackpowder. The only warning in the book is to not leave powder in the measure hopper for extended time....
Hopefully have an after action report on the thing in a couple of days.

I went through two RCBS powder measures and they did not repair them so I picked up a Sheels powder charge. They have a no BS warranty. Bring it in and they will hand you a new one off the shelf. It is completely programmable so you can change the speed and that comes with instructions. It will drop powder faster then the RCBS. I looked at the Hornady but went with the no BS warranty.

I really like my Lyman , and they fixed it after that horrible static electric storm ate up a lot of stuff that was turned on, but it's been making weird noises of late. So I thought well heck for the 169 I'ld give this a try. It can be set for different speeds as well. With the weather being as buggery as is forecast next week should have plenty of time to mess with it. I sure do like how much less room it takes up on the bench.

My first one was a Lyman when they came out and it lasted for better then 2 years and I liked it too. I still have it, but I need to open it up to see what gave out. It might just be a hair fuse. It stopped after a thunder storm also. It will be a long winter and I don't think I will get out of here after Christmas so it might be a good time to see if I can get it and the RCBS back up and running again.

I called Lyman and told the gal the thing quit running. She said well send it in we'll take a look. 2 weeks later she called and said it's on it's way back. I said what do I owe you, she responded just say thanks , and tell your friends good things about us.

That's not the response I got from RCBS. The Gal I talked to said we cant fix it, it is made by outside vendors and they don't allow us to fix them. I said then it's time I look elsewhere for a new one and she said, we hate to see you leave.
Things have changed over the years at RCBS.

I was pleasantly surprised when Lyman did that so easy.
I've always had good response from Hornady and RCBS.

Are you doing anything special to these powder dispensers when using black powder? I have a Pact but the scale portion wonders with use.

The only special thing I do now is unplug it when I'm done.

Same as Kurt.
