RE: Gunner500 Deer Hunt - rdnck - 11-11-2017

Gunner is having a day to remember, for certain. Arkansas has a two buck, two doe limit and after taking a buck and a doe this morning, he climbed up in an old stand and rattled up this seven point buck. The deer was looking at him in the tree, and Gunner shot the deer in the throat with the 40-65. You can see the exit behind the last rib. The deer dropped more or less in his tracks.

That makes six deer with six shots with the 40-65, and the longest tracking job was 30 yards. The caliber flat out works.

More to tell, and Gunner will fill in the gaps later this evening when he gets home. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Hello Stephen, many Thanks for posting the pics, I appreciate it greatly.

rdnck, the little 40 done it again, that's eight deer in a row, three last year, two doe a month back, then three yesterday.

5pt buck was hit broadside through both shoulders at 204 yards, he went maybe 30 yards.

Doe was hit just behind the shoulders about midway up at 153 yards, she made a 35 yard dash and piled up into the side of a dirt bank.

7pt buck was rattled up and shot dead center bottom of the neck at 15-18 yards, he was turned so peering through the brush looking for the fight that the bullet exited left side last rib, he dropped at the shot then regained some momentum and pushed himself maybe 6 yards with his back legs but couldn't ever get his front running gear under him again.

I wholeheartedly urge everyone to get those Sharps rifles out and hunt them, it truly is a blessing to have and to shoot them, and a train load of fun to boot.

Thank You, and yes, venison backstrap from my Wifes cast iron black skillet along with gravy from the drippings and fist sized homemade biscuits is nearly as much fun as hunting with, and shooting these fine rifles.

Not to mention the weird stares I get from other hunters with me carrying a Sharps with a Colt SAA 45 also loaded with black powder and a rdnck Damascus skinner on my belt.Big Grin
