Blackhorn 209 - Don McDowell - 11-25-2012
Ok folks who wants to spill their guts about running this stuff?
Shadow, Porta, Semtav, you guys payin any attention?
I loaded 20 rounds with 37 grs and a .060 wad in fireformed Remington cases, primed with Federal 215 match primers, and topped with the 527 gr money bullet from John Olsen. She ran these thru her hiwall for a few rounds then I finished the lot up.
Anyway accuracy was pretty decent at 300.
So I cleaned the gun washed the brass, and am now comtemplating the next effort to see if we can get this stuff to work for Carol and her hiwall.
Thinking next go will be 39 grs with the 645 saeco bullet, see if the recoil isn't slapping her in the cheek as much as the heavier bullet...

Hehehe, it's her rifle... Shadow 4 gave it to her for a drawing prize at Ekalaka, and said , "bet he never lets her shoot it"..
Besides didn't you ever wonder why I wear that big tall crowned hat? lol

I watched a guy, forgot his name, shoot that stuff at the MT 1000 and I was impressed on how well it shot for him.

Elwin Brunner shoots it quite often. I visited with him about the stuff after she got this can. So far it looks to me like 5744 with smoke added...

Don, Im new on here, but not new to shooting blackhorn. For shooting 45-70 use 33 grains with the rest of what your useing and crimp just so you cant turn the bullet. It takes it longer to get to the target but im not in any hurry. 37 grains is a bit too much. I think your wife will enjoy shooting this load a lot more.

Does BH need to fill the case to the base of the bullet, as with other BP? If not, is a filler used to take up the open space?
Local store has a lb. of it, i'm just askin'.

.I think Dave Gamble uses 32 gr with a money bullet . Seem to remember it being a pretty accurate load. .
He said you just don't have to get them there that fast. Bullets have to be harder. WW +3% etc.I was using 36 in my 45-90. Never got past 100 yds to see how it would do. First two shots were always touching, then the 3-5 would drop and inch lower.

Far as I understand you do. I was using puff lon in my 45-90.. I think I'd rather go to a 45-70 and skip the filler.
