Bottleneck observations - Eric Johanen - 09-16-2018 Cleaned up my brass from yesterday's outing and noticed that the soapy water seemed cleaner than with straight cases. Also the patches I used for cleaning the bore between shots are not as heavily fouled. Anyone noticed the more efficient combustion with bottleneck cases like the 40-50, 44-90, 40-65 or 44-77? KIK or OE leave softer and less fouling than GOEX or Swiss and that may be some of the difference. Just a interesting observation I made today. My Shiloh with a tight paper patch chamber appears to be very efficient burning powder and velocity is good as is accuracy. RE: Bottleneck observations - Don McDowell - 09-17-2018 I'm of the mind that the bottleneck cases, due to squeezing all that pressure thru the smaller hole builds more heat and pressure and leaves the inside of the cases cleaner. RE: Bottleneck observations - Eric Johanen - 09-17-2018 That is my opinion also. I think the venturi effect with bottle neck cases causes higher pressure and more complete combustion of the powder making them shoot cleaner and for the same charge of powder with more velocity. The 44-77 is my first and only to date bottler neck so I was just curious if anyone has noticed this effect. RE: Bottleneck observations - Hanz - 09-18-2018 That's interesting! I can't contribute because all my experience is with 45-70 but I can say thanks for giving me something to think about. Thanks for bringing it up. RE: Bottleneck observations - Kurt - 09-19-2018 Eric your opinion is spot on with this. I have three .44-90 BN's and a .44-77 and the .44-90 bn burns cleaner then my .44-100 Rem straight both in the bore and what is left in the case. Also with the 90 .44-90 bn my first remark when the first bullet went down range, man this kicked up the dust faster then the .44-100 does with the same powder load.
