Debate Topic - everetto - 10-19-2018
Let's say you are looking at 2 modern Sharps style 1874 rifles, in say 45 110, the Quigley cartridge. One is a 34 inch barrel of standard weight (even though they call it HVY), and the other is a 30 inch 16 pounder.
Which will you buy, and why? Note, I am not looking at two rifles like this, I already have them, just curious about if folks are more interested in a lighter longer barrel, or a shorter heavier barrel.
I know, it depends on what you will be using it for....

I have both too. I have been using the 34" barrel Hartford for long range until my new Shiloh LR is sent. I put a full length scope on the 30" bull barrel and I am trying to develop it into a Kenny Wasserburger type paper patch Tollefson rifle. But I'm not having the same luck as he does with paper patch - yet.
If I was going to own only one Sharps it would be a Creedmoor 45-90 and I would use it for everything.

I have both and I do most my hunting with a Shiloh Sharps. I’d choose the 34” because it’s going to be carried and shot off hand in a lot of hunting situations. The 16 is a heavy rifle to shoot off hand but doable.

For walking and carrying, definitely the lighter rifle, but heavy barrels have always been, and always will be my favorite Sharps.
If I could only have one Shiloh, it would be my Business Rifle with the 30" barrel - it does everything well.

My #1, 30"hvy bbl .45-90 does more than I will ever need.
That said-Still shoot The Hartford 34" hvy bbl .45-70 a good bit.
