Simple loading. - Creeker - 12-14-2012 I needed 40 rounds of 30-06 for my friend so thought I’d take a few pictures. Brass after sizing & running in the tumbler to remove the lube. Priming with CCI 200 on the RC. I took no pictures of the trimming, etc. Now for the charge. Seat the 150 grain Remington CL. Packaged & ready to go. Looking at the data on the can it seems that load would work well in a garand? RE: Simple loading. - Creeker - 12-14-2012 This is a rather slow powder Don. The label calls for 61.3 grains with a Hornady 150gr SST. I'm using the CL & the tech I called said to use 62 grains. Note the most IMR 4350 I've used with a 150gr. Jacketed is 60 grains. A friend purchased an 8 pound jug from me & uses it in a Douglas barreled 1903 Remington with good results. His rifle is chambered in 6.5-06. The load does 1 1/2" @ 100 in my Hogue stock 700 with a factory barrel. This CL isn't a target bullet. For my rifle I'll enclose a few pictures of the loads, data, & my settings. RE: Simple loading. - Don McDowell - 12-15-2012 Thanks for the info Lynn, I'll have to watch for some of that powder. I have several rifles chambered in cartridges that do well with slow powders. RE: Simple loading. - Kurt - 11-28-2013 Don, Stay with the 4895 for the Garand and don't look back. A powder to slow for the Garand will put it in full cycle. I grabbed the M-1 and a box of 06 rounds off the shelf without checking the loading data and loaded them in the clips. The rifle put a burst of 5 rounds down range. They were loaded for the bolt rifle with 4350. The slow powder sprung the op rod. RE: Simple loading. - Crew Chief - 12-12-2013 IMR 4895 is a real good powder for the 30 calibers. I use it in my 308 to load for match grade ammo and hunting ammo. Sierra 168 BTHP love it.
