Tic toc - Don McDowell - 06-02-2020 Talked with Lucinda this morning. Kirk has my 77 on his bench for final assembly. Should have it in about 2 weeks.. ![]() Look out Money Match here I come.
RE: Tic toc - Kurt - 06-02-2020 ?????specs?????? RE: Tic toc - Don McDowell - 06-02-2020 Round barrel, rigby rib, rigby flats, checkered. AA finish. 45-90 RE: Tic toc - Kurt - 06-02-2020 That should make a fine long range shooter. The .45-90 is a good caliber. If it wouldn't take so long getting one build I would probably order one in the .44-77 or the .44-75 Ballard using my reamer for it. Getting behind my Axtell 77 feels different than getting behind a 74. The grip and the smaller wrist just feels good but at 10# the .45-2.6 gets a little punishing after a box of rounds is empty the 2.6 is to much of a good thing.
RE: Tic toc - Don McDowell - 06-02-2020 load the 2.6 with 1f and bring the recoil down a bit. I just purchased a rifle with a Meacham Highwall action in 45-100 with a Ron Smith gain twist SS barrel ending in a 16 twist. It’s at my FFL dealer. Hopefully get it in a few weeks. Gonna try out some PP loads. RE: Tic toc - Don McDowell - 06-02-2020 Steve Fogler and Bryan Youngberg both certainly make the 45-100 a tough cartridge to beat. I like the 2.4 case, this is rifle #3 so chambered. I'm hoping that what we learned in Phoenix that rounds loaded for a Shiloh in 45-90 worked well in my hi wall, will continue on when this 77 gets here. It'll make having to sort cases a nonissue.. RE: Tic toc - J.B. - 06-03-2020 Good for you Don. Looking forward to seeing some photos when you take delivery. J.B. RE: Tic toc - Distant Thunder - 06-03-2020 Some guys have luck! ;-) It must feel good to get such call. I unfortunately don't know what that's like. Enjoy the new rifle, Don! And I also want to see some pics! RE: Tic toc - Don McDowell - 06-03-2020 Jim venture out to the High Plains Money match in Byers over the 4th of July weekend, with a bit of luck we'll get to see the rifle and whether I can make it shoot or not.
