I almost forgot.... - Kurt - 06-12-2020 what it's like to load small rounds like the .308 Win. I haven't touched my 700 Rem Varmint synthetic .308 Win for many years. I was at the range today with my .44-77 Farmer shooting and it didn't take long till I had a couple guys standing behind me watching. I offered to let them shoot a couple rounds and one guy took the offer and shot two rounds and got up from behind the rifle and said man that thing really belts you don't it. The other guy declined shooting it. I wonder what he would have said if I was shooting the .45-2.6 or the .50 ![]() I got to talking with them and they said we will have a sniper match on Sunday come on and join us, I said I have a .308 and a couple others but I don't have anything loaded or have powder for it. When I got home I started digging behind some ammo boxes for the .308 cases and I found 5 50 round boxes of loaded rounds but they been loaded since 3/6/93 well I guess it's time I shoot them empty so I put the Bananza bench seating die in the press and I set the seating stem .03" deeper and cracked the bullets loose and they snapped some breaking loose for sitting so long. I dug in the powder locker and I did find a can of 4895 and I loaded 50. The 168 gr bullets are so small that I got my fingers pinched a couple time seating the bullets. Range time again tomorrow and check the sight setting. RE: I almost forgot.... - Don McDowell - 06-13-2020 Next step load some 223’s ? I can’t hardly hang on to them tiny little bullets RE: I almost forgot.... - beltfed - 06-13-2020 Funny thing about this. I have been looking at my stock of such small stuff from the days of HI Po Service rifle competition: My "poor ol' M1A standing in the back of the safe and cans of match ammo on the shelf On the other side, my Match grade AR and a case and a half of match 75 gr BTHP loads. Of course, I have been getting finger exercise hand lubing some tapered 260-117 grain for breech seating in my 25-20 Schuetzen rifle for the Regional Schuetzen Postol match to be shot between now and the 21st. Then, got to cast more 311299 bullets in Lino for shooting my Original M1941 MC Sniper Rifle in upcoming CBA Vin Mil matches. Gives me a break from the Paper Patching finger exercises for my 38-50 for shooting the BPCR match for that Postal Schuetzen Regional, Oh, and I forgot the "best" finger exercise to get those fingers moving: I have to paper patch some 308620 bullets for working up full loads in the M1941 and in my Ruger No 1 30 USA and the 32-40 Rem Hep . beltfed/arnie RE: I almost forgot.... - Kurt - 06-13-2020 Arnie I don't think my fingers could handle patching the 308620's
RE: I almost forgot.... - beltfed - 06-13-2020 INdeed, I have been putting it off patching the 301620s I have cast beltfed/arnie RE: I almost forgot.... - Kurt - 06-13-2020 I loaded 50 more .308's and I didn't patch the 168 gr sierras for the sniper match tomorrow. I had a hard time handling those little gnats mashers
RE: I almost forgot.... - tarbe - 08-03-2020 I am in the process of loading 500 .380ACP for a friend who cannot find ammo. Talk about trying your patience! Old eyes and old fingers do not like trying to manipulate such tiny objects...especially in between a die and a ram! RE: I almost forgot.... - Distant Thunder - 08-03-2020 Reloading .380 ACP is an interesting exercise in dexterity and patience! 3.0 - 3.5 grains of powder fills the little case to capacity because half the case is filled with bullet. It amazes me that from such a small amount of powder and such a stubby little bullet that so much performance can be achieved, with it's limited range of course! The 90 grains Hornady XTPs expand unbelievably at any realistic .380 velocity, what a well designed bullet! I loaded sone 53 gr .222's because some coy dogs been chasing through the yard and we had some kittens with one that disappeared . Pinched my fingers a couple times by the case mouth seating a bullet. Those little things are like a greased bean trying to hold on to them LOL.
