Leftovers - Hiwall55 - 09-25-2021

Well I took 4 Sharps to the range this afternoon to shoot up the leftover ammo that accumulated, 6 to 12 rounds each. 2 shilohs, 44/77 and 45/70. 2 pedersolis, 45/70 and 50/70.
Found some gents to do the shooting, my buddy spotted and I cleaned the rifles. Was FUN and everyone had a good time. When we started making smoke all the black rifles got put up and everyone wanted a try with the sharps.

Sounds like something I should consider doing before the snow flies. I have loaded ammo from 2007 (200 rounds) 45-70 I found hidden away with 69 grs of Swiss 1.5 and Paul Jones 45001 bullet. I shot about 15 of them the other day and they leaded my bore a wee bit. I suspect the 50/50 beeswax and EVO has degraded and doing what 14 year old lube does. I am going to try and put drop of Jojoba oil before chambering and see if that helps with the leading. These were my match loads back then and the accuracy appears to be there just funky with the degraded lube. To much work to pull them and put fresh bullets and lube on top they all have gone bang . It’s Scrapline (Don Mc Dowell term)brass that has been match prepped and is good for greasers. Just want get the brass cleaned up and put away and save it for a Winny 1886.

Try a wet patch of M Pro 7 thru the bore and shoot a few then see if that helps.

I have not used the MPro 7 is that a Napa product ?

I don't think it is. But if you are having any leading ,it will alleviate it. A long time ago when they started using mini lube money bullets, my buddy always ran a wet patch of 100% olive oil down his barrel, dried the chamber and shot a whole match before cleaning.
