while casting, does this hurt or change anything if my casting temp does not change?

While I'm waiting for the cast to set in the mould, I toss the sprue back into the pot right away. I have, in the past, accumulate a pile of sprues and toss them in while I'm also adding new alloy to the pot. I then weigh, sort, reject etc. and toss all that into the pot, and start a new casting period.

It may mess with the temp some on smaller(20lb size)pots.
I wait till I have to add more alloy, to throw the sprues back in.

I just did an experiment with cull bullets in a wagge pot and using a PJ 40001. Saving the sprues and adding alloy made me have to stop, and start over,when the pot heated back up .I cast continually when dropping one bullet in the pot right after pouring then adding the sprue when it was cut, I was able to hold 3 tenths doing it and didnt have to stop for the reheat, ..I think as long as you are consistant you will get good results any way you do it. .When I have a lot of bullets to cast and want a long session, I keep the pot at one level , ...either way the bullets weighed the same , however there was more out of the 3 tenth range ,and I think it was from the lead height in the pot more than the stop and go.

Powderburner has a good reply. But the most important thing he said was be consistant. There are several different ways to cast and temp. but what ever you do, when you find something that works is be Consistant. Just my thoughts.
