Got lucky (I think) in the latest Rock Island auction
Got an 1894 made 1873 rifle in 38wcf
Hope to see how it shoots tommorow

It is a little dark, but from I can see enlarging the picture it sure looks good.
Do you have a matching .38-40 Colt??

RE: New rifle - Don McDowell - 10-15-2024

Yessir a 5 1/2 inch 3rd generation
Also have an 89 Marlin

RE: New rifle - Kurt - 10-15-2024

It cant get any better than that Big Grin

RE: New rifle - Don McDowell - 10-16-2024

I like the cartridge
If this rifle will shoot well I may try to take an antelope with it

Nice acquisition!

RE: New rifle - Kurt - 10-16-2024

I like the old lever rifles. They are as smooth as what the Henry Rifles are now. I think if I was to look for another lever rifle it would be the Henry.
A couple days ago there was a guy shooting with me at the range and he was shooting .360 buck hammer side gate. Never heard of this caliber. It looked close to my .38-50, just a little shorter. He let me take a couple shots and I will say I was impressed with the smoothness of this lever shooter.
But I think I still like my 93 square bolt Marlin better. It was made in 1905.

It’s a shooter
5 rounds 20.5 bh309 180 grain coated bullet 25 yards off hand leaning over a fence post

It looks like it's regulated for 50 yard.

Is that 209 blackthorn by chance you meant?

Yep 209
I’m thinking it’s probably zeros closer to 100
