Hunted yesterday at my camp in Mississippi and had a relaxing morning. Saw 4 deer including one nice 8pt but unfortunately I never got a clear shot at him before the swirling winds let him know I was there. As you can see by the second pic, the longest shot I can get here is only 50 or so yards so the deer are usually right in your lap by the time you see them. The gun is a Pedersolli sharps in 45/70 with a 32" barrel. The load was a 500gr PP bullet, 65 grains Goex 2F, and a lube cookie between two .030 wads.

No shots that day. I did get a doe a couple days ago though. Unfortunately my phone battery was dead and I left the camera at home.

I stumbled into this problem more than I want, due to the kind and course of the winter, of which you have all and we here in mid europe none. Hunitng boars in the night (the only time these overpopulated critters are realy active here), with no snow. Moonlight perfect, one can almost read a newspaper-but the light being so flat and the contrasts on enlighted objects so dimm, that broadside standing pig at 50 meters was a no-shot option with barrel sights. 7x50 scope was needed to bring out enought contrast to distinguish enought details in front of oak bark for proper shot placement. And not once I said "thats your shot, see it well, but not across the sights". And when the distance was OK even for these light conditions, they went into thick and tall grass or prunes, "just for the case". Confusing at least, I feel for you.
BTW seems like nice woods, from forester´s point of view
