david brooks anyone? - Plastikosmd - 12-19-2013

not sure who david brooks is? I acquired one of his pistols. 32 caliber or so, it looks like a great piece. The wood is awesome, metalwork, fitting and trigger are unbelievable. Very cool lock/turn type action. Anyone have any info on him?

I have no idea who David Brooks is either but that is a very neat pistol. I don't think I have ever seen one with a lock like that, I have seen pics of flinters and in lines with a more modern style. That is definitely unique. That false muzzle makes it even more interesting. Will be interested in hearing how it shoots. Best of luck with it.

Trigger and action is as good as my Morris guns or my schutzens. I guess this is some form of side lock. The twist cocking mechanism is a great touch

I was wondering what the turn key was right hand side how far do you have to turn it to cock the hammer?

Do you know what twist that it has most are around 16 inches. This past summer I bought a muzzleloading pistol made by Tim Brazzell, it's a inline zip lock with a 14 inch twist. I questoned the really fast twist but he assured me that it would shoot great. He wasn't lying 12 to 15 grains of 3F GOEX and it'll punch out the X ring if you can hold it I'm still working on that and probably will be the rest of my life. A couple of shooting buddies shot it and soon had theirs ordered, now I warn anybody that wants to shoot it "Shoot it and you'll be hooked it's going to cost you!"

The info from Mr. Price ( an amazing builder, http://www.davidpriceflintlocks.com )

Dave Brooks originally lived in Mass. where he worked for Sylvania.* From what I understand, he was the one that invented the flash cube for Sylvania.* Some of you young folks won't know what that was.* It was basically a four sided flash bulb for taking pictures in low light.* He* was a bit of a genious and a wonderful macheniest* After he retired he moved to N.H. and built many guns including an* exact copy of a gatlin gun which I had the opportunity to fire at Fort Ticonderoga in the mid 60s.* He built many* side hammer rifles and pistols and his work was second to none.* A* friend of mine just picked up a 32 cal. rifle that he built which still shoots great.

He was a very nice person that everyone liked.
