32-40 loads?

RE: 32-40 loads?
I need to get a chamber cast made so I can figure out what diameter would be good for a patched bullet. Also if anybody has any recommendation for breech seating tools.

Don you can make a good and easy cast using wax. Wax will keep it's outside dimensions it shrinks in the center. Just lightly oil the chamber and bore, let it set up and tap it out. Paraffin wax or candle works very good.
Hard to do better then a Russ Weber breach seater. Do a search for his number.

Thanks Kurt, I'll see if I can find him.
I have some cerrosafe, but I guess I never thought about just using straight paraffin.
Another good tip. Thanks!

The Russ Weber seaters are excellent. You can also do some pretty fine shooing with a plugged cartridge case, although the Weber has the advantage of adjustability.

Don, if you have some pin guages you can wrap them in your paper and see how they fit. That was how I picked a diameter for my .32-40 patched bullet. Steve Brooks cut mine. The only problem was that I didn't specify a shank to nose ratio and Steve made it 50/50. For my little .32-40 I'd prefer a lot less nose, and more shank.

RE: 32-40 loads?
Don, mine are .310" and finish at 0.315" wet patched with 8lb Seth Cole. I've never been particularly good at exact measurements of bore diameter so that's why I used patches on some pin guages to test for fit. This diameter fits my Badger barreled CPA pretty well. Do you know what barrel is on that nifty new Ballard of yours?

No idea what brand of barrel. But Steve did say he was shooting .322 greasers.

I've got an old Ideal 30 cal mould that throws a 190 or so spire point at .310,, might wrap a couple of those and see which way they go when they leave the barrel..
