There is some gold here, but not much. Some silver, but nothing that lasted. That's what Lusk was first known as was Silver Cliff.

Thank you Steve.

This don't happen to often at 200 yards but it sure feels good when you see that your rifle is capable of doing it.

RE: Everything went right today
Went into the third inning today with the CPA .44-100 St.
Yesterday Ion the second inning I loaded a ladder load of 1.5 Swiss from a no compression 93 gr load to 100 grains 5 rounds each and the best I could get was 3-3/4" group, so that was a lost inning.
Today I loaded 15 rounds using the 83 gr of 2F OE and the Brooks 500 gr with the sharps profile and shot a 5 round group with the second shot going over the right field fence from fat fingering the trigger.
Those 4 shots went into a 1" exactly horizontal group @ 200 yards.
I shot the next 10 rounds with a sight change that still worked pout well.
For some reason this rifle/caliber does not care for the Swiss for some reason, with this bullet anyway, but if it wants to cut a 4 shot 1" group at 200 I won't scold it.

A lot of shooters will thumb their nose with that almost round nosed bullet but I have a elevation adjustment screw on my sight and if I need it I will adjust. Big Grin

I have two rifles with this chamber and both have shown me some good results. One is a 25# that I just cant get warmed up to and it's also a fine shooter.

It must be the .44 calibers..........

Looking pretty good. I like the original postel/creedmoor profile bullets.
None of my 44's care much for Swiss either.

This last case of Swiss is shooting very good in the .45-90 but the ladder load I shot yesterday did not work from beginning to end. Maybe with a different bullet it might come around, but the way it's working with the OE I might not find out.

There is a big difference between shooting off sticks and sandbagging the rifle. I sand bag here at home mostly.

RE: Everything went right today
I'm finding a pattern with the .44-77, .45-90 and the .44-100 straight I been shooting the most these last several weeks and that is they seem to shoot the best with the 83 gr loads either with the 1.5 Swiss or the 2F OE even when I can load them heavier.
With the .44-100 these last several days I went back to a lube wad. The reason I did this is when I was emptying some loads that were several years old they had a lube wad and they really put some tight groups at 200 so these last couple ladder load tests with the load data from the old loads that I used in the 25# heavy barreled Shiloh with the 17 twist that shot so good in it and they are shooting very good in the 16 twist CPA.
The target below I shot with the heavy barreled .44-2.6-100 St. it was close range in my yard that I shot those targets but they would rival some of my HP rifles at this range.
Well yesterday I went back to using a 3/16" lube wad sandwiched between a OJ carton wad using a very soft lube and a 1/16" fiber gasket wad under the bullet and deep seated the Brooks bullet 1/4" to get a little compression on the 83 gr powder load.
This 83 gr load of 2F OE out shot the no lube ladder loads with 1.5 Swiss using 93 to 100 grains of Swiss. None were anywhere near to the OE loads with the lighter powder charges.
I don't know for sure if the lube helped seal the gas back to keep the verticals next to nothing or if it was the lighter powder charges.
83 grains under a 500 gr bullet is more than good enough to make a showing at the 1K.
I used the p[owder charge at the Q the last time and it put me in 9th place using the .45-90 using the PJ 523 gr PP that has a poster nose that is just about like the .44 Sage bullet that shoots well in the .44-77.

But all of this I will work out I hope this summer. I might get to be a lubeaholic again. Big Grin

RE: Everything went right today
My primary rifle will be the .44-77 this year and I have 400 rounds loaded for it.
I will; bring the .45-90 that I used the last time but it will just be the backup and finish emptying cases that I didn't shoot up two years ago during the last Q.
I'm short of time this year and I might not shoot the match, haven't decided yet.

I wanted to shoot the .45-100 I got from Lary but it needs work. It will not setoff the primer on the first drop of the hammer, sometimes it won't at all.

Nice looking rifle but a none shooter.

I'm going to try out the 40-65 Ballard 1885. Not sure if I'll shoot the match with it but it shoots pretty good. Didn't have time to really work up a load, but it shoots the same load the Sharps does well enough to use.
