Going from a .50-90 or the .44-90 BN to a .38-50 takes a adjustment and a little learning first. Big Grin

I would of thought that with you running the 40-65 the last few years you would of been used to not having to gather up your false teeth, glasses and hat after every shot and transition into the 38 would be easy peasy. Smile Smile

LOL, No falls teeth yet here and if I had some I would not mind having them fly out on the ground. Big Grin
That big boys rifle just shoots too good
Little Missy the .40 is a fine shooter but it just don't feel the same. LOL.

As we age, I think we deserve not getting the snot knocked out of us to continue shooting.

I "graduated" downward to the 40 calibers some years back after getting my collar bone bruised by my 45-70/535gr bullets.

Now it is this GREAT 38-50 I am enjoying

AND, I LOVE going to and shooting the .22 LR matches, too.

NO, NEED to show Macho Man stuff anymore. I did that long enough.
Just more "elderly" civilized and COMFY to shoot now

Arnie,

Tearing the retina in both of my eyes and loosing a lot of my center vision convinced me that it's time for a lesser caliber and also that long 3/4 inch tube on top of the barrel.
It will keep me going.

You 'long termers' ...may have to excuse us 'beginners' for preferring the buck and roar of the larger bores. The 50 just about covers my flinch. The 44 can come close...but the 40... well.. its there for all to see :-(. Did enjoy a recent outing with my boys 40/ 70 straight and it performed well and while the 50 is a 'hoot to shoot' ...it does take its toll over a weekend. The 44...well.. it just 'feels right'... Oh yes..and it 'almost' disquises... I say almost... ..my flinch. Not sure I'm ready to gear up for 38's and a scope....though I dare say the day will come. I hope it does... because it means I can still play this game.. and its a lot of fun.

regards.. Gavin.

Kurt,
Indeed, I would like us to get some shooting in together for a while yet. Lord Willing!

And JB, we hope you can support our limping along by keeping the sport going.

What kind of wiping rods is everyone using with their 38s?

I made up mine out of 5/16 white delrin. I threaded the end and put on a bras tip threaded to hold different jags. The rod just fits in a standard rife case.

Where is a good place to get that material?

Ian I think you can get those at most of the major lumber yard and hardware stores.
