Is that rifle Eric is holding a hawken with a receiver sight mounted?

No, Don.

It was made as a percussion target (schuetzen) rifle by a well known maker in Sacramento CA. Kopicus can be found in "American Percussion Schuetzen Rifles" and "Gunsmiths Of California" and surely other books. The California percussion Schuetzen rifles had a style all their own. Different than Midwestern rifles and Eastern rifles. California had a thriving schuetzen community. Many rifles were made with beautiful Claro Walnut. Some had pronged schuetzen style butt plates and some had the crescent style seen on Erics rifle. Some didnt have a sight on the tang, just a barrel sight.

Picture is of my rifle with original diopter sight on the tang. Was out today testing a new bullet and plinking.
