Your getting my interest sparked again.
I have enough parts in the odds and end box and a sugar maple and wall nut plank that has been collecting dust out in the shed for 20 odd years to build another rifle. Been sort of saving them for a early Lancaster.
I have a .45 caliber barrel that has a slight ring in the chamber I been looking at that I can cut the threads off and put a breach block in place.
Might have to work on the pipe wrench cuts I put on the barrel taking it off the action it was on but I can fix those.

I'm sort of partial to the .44 calibers. Are they popular in the fast twist bore circles? Seems like the few I see getting used here are the .48 ans some .41's

Assuming you're talking about percussion target rifles.

The one in my picture is .43, or .431 groove diameter, ratchet rifling.
Gain twist that ends at 24". 40s are pretty common in the old rifles. No competitions for these rifles currently, that I know of. They used them at friendship but dont know if they still do. For me, a 45 would have to much recoil. I prefer the .38.
