You might want to try a couple of things. Cut your patch to 3/4 inch. Then seat the bullet just deep enough that the rifling engraves the leading edge of the patch.
I shoot a 360 gr. .400 dia wrapped in seth cole in the CSA Hepburn, that rifle has a very short throat and all bullets have to be seated pretty deep.
