I took some beeswax this frosty morning and tried to cut it with a knife.
too hard.
using a hammer and cold chisel it cracked easily, almost like shattering.
in summer the same stuff is almost malleable, and can be bent by hand.
I mixed 4 parts wax, 1 part tallow, 1 part oil and 1 part lanolin.
this made a very thick grease which may or may not bee too soft for a grease wad.
time will tell whether it can lube the whole bore or lodge in the breech end.
should it need to be hardened either all the time or just in summer, extra wax will make its melting point higher - a good thing.
its main use is an experiment in sealing gas behind the bullet, so there might be a different hardness/softness requirement than a lube.
there is only a 0.030 plastic wad on the powder in the hope the wad will sweep the more only a little, leaving much lube in the barrel.
milk carton or even grease proof paper might wok better at leaving more lube in the bore.
